Comptroller Adetoye declares war on smugglers

The Customs Area Controller, Adamawa / TabaraCommand, Comptroller Adetoye Olutade, has warned the smugglers and their collaborators operating in his domain that the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS,  under the leadership of the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC, Hameed Ali,  has zero tolerance for smuggling.

Financial Business & Maritime News learnt that despite the insecurity, coupled with Boko Haram menace in these States, Adetoye is not  deterred, as he faces his operations daily.

According to him, the Command seized a total of 323 bags of foreign rice with Duty Paid Value, DPV, of  N5, 783, 942.85 in the month of November, 2017. Other seizures include, five vehicles with DPV of  N6, 688, 247.50 55 and Elephant Tusk, during the period under review.

Also, the Command collected a total of N145, 031,988.78, as revenue between January and November, 2017.

However, Comptroller Adetoye, who is not relenting in his core functions, has made various seizures ranging from 252 cartons of Cameroons savon soap, bales of second hand clothings, 1, 425 bags of  smuggled rice, 350 gallons of 25 liters, Premium Motor Spirit, PMS,  commonly known as petrol and other items.

Others prohibited items intercepted during the period  includes, one flying boat with 75HP yancha out board engine, 199 packets of 25 by10 cartons of dizapan drugs, two Motorcycles and 14 various vehicles with DPV of N119,779,396.00.

He therefore called on patriotic Nigerians to join hands and support Customs in the fight against smuggling.

According to him, “Smuggling destroys the nation, it creates unemployment, unleashes poverty and brings about socio-economic and political instability in the system”.

Furthermore, he thanked the traditional Leaders, states governments and other security agencies for their support and collaboration. “Your supports are very vital to the success we have recorded so far”, he enthused.
