The Tincan Island Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded an outstanding performance in revenue generation, as the Command raked in a huge sum of N237.2billion (approximately N237.3billion) from January to October 2017.

In a comparative analysis, the N237.3billion realised within this period under review is greater than N207.9billion generated in the corresponding period in 2016, which shows almost N30billion increase in the current revenue profile.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Uche Ejesieme, made the revenue figures availabe to Financial Business & Maritime News, explained that the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Tincan, Comptroller Bashar Yusuf, is working assiduously to enhance more revenue generation for government.

He said, “Looking at the records of Tincan in 2017 fiscal year, you can see that the CAC has repositioned the Command for greater functionality. This revenue generation is part of the giant strides of Tincan Command, as the CAC has blocked all loopholes to ensure maximum revenue collection at all times.”

Financial Business & Maritime News inquest revealed that the Tincan CAC, who is known to be very skillful in Customs operations has developed operational templates carefully articulated to encompass adherence to due diligence by stakeholders. Also, the new templetes are designed to entrench professionalism as well as integrity on the psyche of officers in the Command.

Our correspondent also learnt that the Command relied mostly on capacity building, regular training and re-training of officers at different categories to achieve a high level of professional integrity, which ultimately led to the increased revenue collection within this period.

Moreso, it could be recalled that Tincan Customs recently recorded three different seizures of catche of arms, even as the Command seized two containers load of drugs (Tramadol), falsely declared as used vehicle and computer accessories.

Speaking further, the PRO stated, “The CAC of Tincan Command has undoubtedly diminished the capacity of such unpatriotic importers through several measures aimed at nipping these issues in the bud. Those seizures were made through high profile intelligence using Information Communications Technology (ICT) as a major tool. Our new strategic focus has strengthened not only the statutory responsibility of revenue generation but also safety of lives. Tincan Command is doing this by decimating the tendency of unscrupulous importers who bring in unwholesome drugs, particularly Tramadol, which consumption would naturally have a consequential effect on our large population of youths, thereby affecting their education and socio-economic wellbeing amongst other negative effects”.
