The Apapa Customs has intensified efforts in enlightening port users and the public on the measures put in place by the Command to ensure full compliance with the new Executive Order of the Federal Government on ease of doing business.
To ensure adequate implementation of this policy, the Command has also established a Joint Examination Centre comprising all government agencies approved to conduct examinations, in order to ensure 24 hours operations in the port
The officer posted to supervise activities at the centre, AC Yahaya Idris, said that the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller Musa Jibril, is putting measures in place to ensure full compliance with the new policy.
According to him, the CAC and top officers of the Command have been holding regular meetings with various stakeholders to sensitise them on the urgent need to key into the new policy.
The centre located at APM Terminal is meant to accommodate National Agency for Food, Drugs, Administration and Control, NAFDAC, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Department of State Security, DSS, Police Anti-bomb and other agencies.
According to him, “The essence of the centre is for agencies to view importers declaration on Customs platform, to know the date other agencies will be involved in joint examination of cargoes, to reduce interface between importers and officers, to input their examination reports in the system, to ensure that containers are released without delay, so as to meet the yearning of government on the new policy. To make the centre accessible for all the agencies and AP Moller, we came up with Apapa Customs Joint Examination Centre dedicated email address (NCSapapa.exams@gmail.com). We equally gave them the Customs telephone numbers to access the platform 24hours.”
He added, “Also, the centre in collaboration with our Public Relations Unit printed handbills to sensitise the public on how to access our new system of doing business, which is paying off. Aside from these efforts, the CAC is working assiduously to ensure that Apapa Command achieves full compliance with the new policy.
