(Photo news by Udeme Clement):
Following the mind boggling seizures of 554 cartons of tramadol capsules and other prohibited items, worth over N223.2 million in Duty Paid Value (DPV); the Customs Area Controller (CAC), of Apapa Command, Comptroller Yusuf Malanta, is already trailing the consignee.
Comptroller Malanta, made this known while addressing reporters at the seaport.
According to him, “We are trailing the consignee for arrest and possible prosecution, in connection with these criminal and unlawful importations”
Speaking further, the CAC frowned at the level of concealment perpetrated by the consignee, in attempt to escape security checks at the seaport.
He explained that upon 100 percent physical examination, they discovered that the large quantities of tramadol capsules were concealed with 1000 cartons of ceramic tiles and falsely declared by the consignee.
“Look at what we uncovered here, even the tiles are inferior. These are not good quality tiles.”
Other seizures made by the Command include 40ft container loaded with sacks of mosquito coil products but falsely declared as ground paper and packaging paper bag; seven (7) containers loaded with bales of used clothing; shoes and one container of unregistered pharmaceutical product (989) cartons of mixagrip tabs, wrongfully declared as Winches and gaskets.
